Architecture is generally conceived as a static form of art, as the planning and design of habitats is not related from the outset to the use of mobile and dynamic structures and elements. This immobility, which in principle might seem natural to us, may not, on occasions, invite ideas directed towards constructive components that are more adaptable to the specific needs of the users. However, thanks to technological advances and the development of construction techniques and materials, the possibilities of adding more efficient and, therefore, more functional structures and ingredients without necessarily losing the ability to integrate with the environment have been considerably expanded.
This paper shows some of the possibilities that origami can offer in architectural design using 3D modelling methodologies aimed at offering greater precision in the final result. To this end, a brief exploration of origami patterns and examples in which this technique has been applied in architecture is presented. Finally, two projects are presented as proposals for the use of origami in construction, as well as several images of the 3D models.
